Team Building | The Apprentice

The Apprentice, fun, exciting and challenging team building event. “If I was Sir Alan Sugar, I’d pick me!”

The Game

Twelve Candidates, two eagle-eyed advisors and one self-made businessman. Test the nerves and brains of your ‘hopefuls’ in our brand new business adventure.

Yes, The Apprentice is back and we will see the candidates compete to win the challenge and the chance to become the apprentice of EMG’s version of Sir Alan Sugar. Over a day the candidates will take part in the “toughest test in corporate events”. As Sir Alan says of the apprentice, "this is a job interview from hell...."
Based from the venue of your choice the group will be split into teams and given a task with which to expose their entrepreneurial abilities.
For those on the winning team a taste of the executive lifestyle awaits in the form of a luxury treat/prize. For the losing team, they may discover that, unlike his name, our Sir Alan Sugar is not so sweet.

At the end of the event (generally over dinner) each team's project manager must present their ideas, marketing plans and implementation to the board – in front of their peers. The two mentors and our Sir Alan Sugar will consider all of the propositions put before them and combined with a review of the days figures from the teams allocated businesses, will make their judgements on who is successful and who will hear the words they dread: “YOU’RE FIRED!”

Over the nail-biting journey the candidates will endure and enjoy), a fight for survival. Only one team can win so be prepared for plenty of competitiveness along the way...

The Format

Each team will comprise around 4 people who will be responsible for implementing their team’s plans on their chosen business.

Prior to the event the preferred business model will be chosen. On the day teams will be allocated or draw lots to determine which one of the three different businesses they will be driving:

  • Charity shop sales (good CSR)
  • Coffee shop sales
  • Street vendors (Hot Dogs, Smoothie makers, Candy Floss etc) - The added dimension of identifying their location within a predefined area can be included to provide a twist to their planning and strategies.

Teams will have to identify roles for the group members (we can make this so that the team members are not in their ‘day to day’ roles) and the strategies for the next day will have to be created.

Activity Content

Teams are challenged to plan, design and create a marketing plan for their business idea. Each team’s piece will be different according to the allocated business but the principle will remain the same – sell as much as you can in one day and beat the other teams.

Teams will be given a wad of cash to spend as they see fit (although any surplus at the end of the event will be included to their overall totals), team clothing and a team vehicle for the day. The rest is up to them!

In order to quantify the team’s progress the group must devise a voucher system that each potential ‘client’ must present upon purchase. This will allow our advisors to monitor the teams progress at stages through the day and of course, our Sir Alan Sugar will be able to view the overall results at the end of the programme.

The Boardroom – Fired or Hired?

Our ‘Sir Alan Sugar’ will ultimately decide along with the aid of his business mentors (local business entrepreneurs) which is the overall winning team. There will be an overall prize winner and the rest will go home with nothing! There will be additional spoof prizes for “outstanding” individual contributions, bloopers and other humorous moments that will be rewarded with comical gifts…
